through the midwest and the south killing seven people. that same storm that is bringing us a christmas eve rain storm in our area. let's get right to chuck bell with more on the forecast. chuck? >> good morning, barbara. good morning, everyone. we have already seen quite a bit of rain early this morning. most of the heavy rain remains in southern charles, southern calvert and much of st. mary's county. these individual cells are racing across the lower part of the bay. marine warnings in and around the metro. we have a flash flood watch. the threat of any additional flooding rains in the metro is going down. most of the heavy rain has pushed down to the south. record highs set at dulles. we have tied the record. we are easily going to get into the 70s today. that record will fall as well. how long this warm weather sticks around coming up in a few more minutes. >> if you happen to be traveling today, we are tracking cancellations and delays at airports across the country. right now, there are more than

600 delays and dozens of cancellations. we just checked. there are 13 at reagan national and, boy, oh, boy, you can expect crowded highways. 2.5 million will be on the roads taking advantage of the cheap gas prices. >> now, to that developing story we have been talking about. deadly tornadoes moving through the midwest and into the south. they left complete devastation behind. nbc's mark potter has a look at the damage and the latest on the death toll joining us now from mississippi. >> reporter: behind me is one of the houses struck by the trn. as you can see, the roof has partially collapsed. the house itself was knocked off its foundation. pushing that direct about five feet. the sheriff tells us the people that live there are okay. this he were not hurt. they did have to spend the night in a shelter in clarksdale. the power crews have been out here since first light this morning repairing the down lines. this he have a small army out here trying to get people their power back. the storm system yesterday

identity of the victim and he went ahead and make contact with mr. carrie. he had already had inappropriate sexual contact with the 14-year-old boy prior to tuesday. developing right now, a ninth suspect has been arrested in connection with last month's deadly attacks in paris. this morning, officials announced they arrested a 36-year-old man in brussels yesterday. he is being held on charges of taking part in a terrorist group and murders. police say he is a belgium citizen and was in contact with the cousin of the mastermind of the paris attacks. >> it is certainly beginning to look a lot like christmas. the washington national cathedral services are about to get underway at noon. the first of three services. the others are late tonight at 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. the cathedral will also celebrate christmas day masses tomorrow. christmas grinches are out to steal your information. how to spot this santa scam and how a hack at a

a consumer alert they are calling the santa scam. an e-mail is going around promising a hand written letter or a personalized phone call that tells you to go to a website and enter your personal information, including a credit card. look for grammar or spelling mistakes. that could be a tip-off something is wrong. >> if you recently stayed at a hyatt hotel, hackers may have gotten access to your credit card information. hyatt hotel has announced they have discovered malware on computers used for payment processing on november the 30th. the company didn't say why it waited three weeks to alert the public. it did say it is investigating. hyatt said customers should look

over their account statements and report any suspicious charges. a fairfax county student posted threatening messages on instagram. her mother says bullying made her do that. she was on a so-called hate list and threatened her classmates with death or serious harm. investigators say the girl made up an instagram account and used emojis of a gun, knife and even a gun. her mother spoke with us and said, she doesn't think her daughter would actually hurt anyone. >> as a mom, i don't fknow what to tell you. >> her daughter is facing felony charges. these kind of threats can be disruptive. officials are asking parents to talk with their kids about using social media. >> there is one month are day for deals, shoppers can look forward to before the year is over. it is not today. it is not today. when to mark your c

saturday. it does have special carpets that allow people to ski and snowboard on a synthetic surface. last year, it officially opened on december 13th. a newly released police report details a pattern of parties and underage drinking at a home linked to the deaths of two teenagers from montgomery county. you may remember alex merc and calvin lee died in a car crash back in june. police say the crash was alcohol related. officers say the group was leaving a party at a home in north potomac. yesterday, they obtained the new police report. police say teenagers told them the homeowners regularly let them drink at the home but would check to make sure people got home safely. the man that shot up a colorado planned parenthood will undergo a mental health evaluation. a judge ordered the evaluation for robert deer after he told the judge he wants to represent himself in court. he will spend the next 60 days at a state mental hospital and be back in court in february. he is accused of killing three people in the shooting last

i'm mo llette green live at tyson's. >> last of last-minute shoppers are out today grabbing gift cards. the national retail federation asks consumers what they would do if they got one. most people, nearly 42%, in fact, said they would hold it until really good sales come along. nearly 20% say they plan to spend it right away. another 19% say they would hold on to those cards for a time when they feel they need to treat themselves. >> authorities are looking for two suspects close to a dozen burglaries in spotsylvania. the sheriff's department released these photos of the subjects in, a. they hit 11 businesses near route 1. if you know anything that can help track down these suspects, they are asking you to call the police. >> a conservative group in fairfax county is suing the school board over a new nondiscrimination policy. the liberty council claims the board violated virginia law by adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the

nondiscrimination policy. supporters say the updated policy protects students and teachers who identify as lgbt. >> the governor of virginia is calling for acceptance after a controversial class assignment closed down schools. they closed last friday after a geography teacher asked students to write a muslim statement of faith. the governor says he thinks it was the wrong move. >> you want children to have a broad-based education. you want them to be taught different religions and languages. that's all part of what we need to be open and welcoming to everybody. >> school district leaders say they were concerned but there was never any specific threat to the schools. >> a baldy more county police officer is on administrative duty because of what you are seeing on this video. the police chief says the officer was part of this arrest on saturday in townsend. he says the 19-year-old resisted arrest and that's when the officer threw a punch.

purchases online. big incentive for stores like urban outfitters to follow suit and get customers off the internet and into the store. walk into new york city's herald square and you will find a hair salon, full service ka fay and photo booth. displays that encourage shoppers to touch, taste and tweet. 72% of mel inle yas say they would rather spend their money on experience versus product. give them both and sales figures show it is a winning combination. on chicago's mag mile, the mo toe shop is doing just that. >> the store is meant to be very ex experiential. over at the watch station, you can try on different bands and see which one you like and see which one looks best on your wrist. >> reporter: customers can grab a free cooky on the way to test out the world's first shatter-proof smart foep. >> this is almost therapeutic. >> you are getting a personalized touch and service.
